Job Overview

Saudi Aramco, one of the world's leading integrated energy and chemicals enterprises, is seeking a highly skilled and analytical Gas Business Modeler to join the Gas Operations Technical Support Division (GOTSD) under the Gas Operations Technical Support & Planning Department (GOTS&PD).

GOTSD spearheads the strategic growth, engineering design, and portfolio optimization of Saudi Aramco’s gas business. By integrating technical engineering excellence with advanced digital innovation—such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Digital Twins—the department oversees the long-term planning of the Master Gas Network. In this position, your primary role is to leverage process simulation, steady-state/dynamic pipeline modeling, and economic forecasting frameworks to drive high-impact decision-making, optimize the gas supply portfolio, and maximize operational efficiency.

Vacancy Details & Baseline Criteria

Gas Business Modeler

  • Department: Gas Operations Technical Support Division (GOTSD)
  • Employment Type: Full-Time (Exact schedule to be specified in the formal job offer)
  • Job Location: Within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Specific location to be specified in the formal job offer)
  • Target Audience: Expatriate / US Candidates (and eligible global applicants)

Minimum Educational Requirements & Background:

  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an approved and recognized program. Preference will be given to candidates holding a degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Core Competency: A robust, foundational understanding of Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and mass and energy balances.

Required Experience & Technical Skills

  • Industry Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of direct experience in gas process modeling and simulation, ideally acquired within the upstream or downstream gas sector.
  • Process Simulation Softwares: Proven proficiency in building models using industry-standard engineering software such as Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II, and Aspen Plus.
  • Production Systems Modeling: Documented hands-on skills working with production tools including PROSPER, GAP, and PIPESIM.
  • Pipeline Network Modeling: Strong preference will be given to candidates with network simulation skills using PLEXSYS and OLGA (for building dynamic models).
  • Data Science & Analytics Tools: Practical experience using data extraction, visualization, and programming languages including Excel, Python, MATLAB, and Power BI.
  • Economic Modeling Frameworks: Competency in capital asset evaluation and financial modeling, including calculating Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and detailed cash flow projections.
  • Preferred Assets: Holding professional certifications in specific simulation softwares or project economics is highly preferred. Prior exposure to model-based executive decision support, digital transformation initiatives (predictive analytics), or familiarity with Saudi Aramco engineering standards and procedures is a significant advantage.

Key Responsibilities & Job Duties

  • Maintain, run, and update mathematical, computational, and digital simulation models to guide operational analysis, corporate project planning, and engineering design.
  • Develop steady-state and dynamic simulation profiles for complex gas process units, comprehensive pipeline networks, facility production systems, or standalone processing facilities to predict real-world performance.
  • Apply thermodynamic, hydraulic, and macroeconomic principles to guarantee model accuracy under diverse operating criteria.
  • Collect, process, and validate raw operational data acquired from physical field measurements, historical performance charts, or front-end engineering studies to ensure baseline model reliability.
  • Run rigorous predictive simulations under varying scenario assumptions, including potential equipment failures, capacity reallocations, production declines, and new well head connections.
  • Analyze simulation reports to diagnose operational bottlenecks, determine ultimate capacity limitations, and recommend engineering adjustments or structural modifications.
  • Provide technical modeling insights to support Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) studies, operational troubleshooting panels, and capital expenditure feasibility assessments.
  • Perform routine calibration and validation tests on active models against historical or real-time field data to improve predictive accuracy.

Working Environment & Benefits

Saudi Aramco offers a highly rewarding, collaborative, and globally competitive professional working environment. Employees work on truly world-scale infrastructure projects backed by unmatched technology investments. Financial remuneration packages, relocation assistance, housing allowances, and talent development schemes are tailored extensively to match the high-performing nature of the role.

Expert Advice for Applicants

  • Highlight Mixed Domain Expertise: This role sits precisely at the intersection of process engineering and corporate finance. To pass the initial screening, your resume must showcase both sides: mention the specific technical software you use (like Aspen HYSYS or OLGA) right alongside your financial modeling experience (like CAPEX forecasting or NPV sensitivity analysis).
  • Structure Experience Chronologically by Software: Saudi Aramco uses automated tracking filters that screen for specific simulation platforms. Group your past projects explicitly under headings like “HYSYS Process Simulation Experience” or “OLGA Pipeline Network Modeling” to make your software fluency instantly visible to the recruiters.
  • Emphasize Digital Twin Contributions: The GOTSD department focuses heavily on AI, IoT, and digital twin architectures. If you have ever participated in a project that integrated live field sensor data into a static simulation model for real-time monitoring, feature that initiative prominently on the first page of your profile.
