How to Prepare for This Role

The Additional Director (Students Affairs) position at IST Islamabad is an EBPS-19 contract role requiring MBA or BBA in Marketing/Management with 13 years of post-qualification experience. This is the most senior student affairs position in the institution. The selection involves a practical test and/or interview at IST Islamabad campus. The four areas below outline what the panel will assess most closely.

๐Ÿ“Œ
Note: First class in final degree is mandatory. Only one second class in the entire academic career from matric onwards is allowed. No third division in the academic career is permitted. Candidates can apply for one post only. Download the application form from ist.edu.pk/downloads. Last date: 9th July 2026. No TA/DA for test/interview.
1MBA/BBA in Marketing/Management (1st Division) and 13 Years Post-Qualification Experience

The panel will verify your MBA or BBA degree (4 years) in Marketing or Management from an HEC recognized university, with a first division result (minimum 60% in annual system or CGPA 2.5/4.0 in semester system). Bring your original degree, detailed transcript, and mark sheets from matric onwards. Only one second division is allowed in your entire academic record from matric onwards; no third division is permitted at any level. For experience, you must have 13 years of post-qualification work in a relevant management or student affairs role. Each employer's experience letter must be on company letterhead, signed by an authorized officer, and must state your designation, the nature of work, and the period of employment clearly. The 13-year post-qualification experience threshold is a senior requirement and will be strictly verified.

Tip
Prepare a complete academic timeline from matric to your final degree listing marks/grades and the division obtained at each level. The panel will cross-check your academic record against the one second division allowance rule. Any unreported third division will result in disqualification.
2Student Affairs Management: Enrollment, Retention, Engagement and Support Services

The Additional Director (Students Affairs) is a leadership role overseeing the full student life cycle at IST. Be prepared to describe your experience managing student affairs functions at a senior level: student enrollment and orientation programs, academic support services, student counselling and grievance handling, extracurricular and co-curricular activities, student societies and clubs, discipline management, and student welfare initiatives. The panel will assess your ability to develop and implement student affairs policies, coordinate with academic departments, and handle student-related issues at an institutional level. Experience in a higher education institution, a public sector university, or a government-funded educational organization will be most directly relevant. Describe specific programs or initiatives you led, the scale of the student population you served, and measurable outcomes.

Key Point
IST is a public sector engineering and technology university. Candidates with experience in student affairs at a science, technology, engineering, or management institution will demonstrate the most direct fit. Prepare examples of student-facing initiatives you led that improved enrollment, student satisfaction, or institutional outcomes.
3Marketing and Management Leadership at Additional Director Level

The required specialization in Marketing/Management is directly applicable to student recruitment, institutional outreach, and departmental management within the Students Affairs division. Be ready to discuss how you have applied marketing strategies to student recruitment campaigns, how you have managed teams and cross-functional coordination, and how you have developed management frameworks for student-facing departments. At EBPS-19, this role involves directing multiple sub-functions and managing a team of junior officers. The panel will ask scenario-based questions about managing a large student body at a technical university, handling crises involving student welfare, coordinating with academic and administrative departments, and reporting to senior leadership. Prepare structured, example-based answers that demonstrate both strategic thinking and operational management competence.

Tip
Prepare two or three examples of complex student affairs challenges you resolved at a management level. For each, describe the situation, your role, the actions you took, and the outcome. Panel members at EBPS-19 level interviews expect detailed, leadership-focused responses that go beyond describing day-to-day tasks.
