About This Role
UNICEF seeks an Advocacy and Communication Specialist at the P-3 level for a 364-day temporary appointment in Islamabad, Pakistan. This position is central to UNICEF's mission of advocating for children's rights and communicating with key public and private audiences to build support for children's causes. The successful candidate will coordinate, implement, monitor and evaluate advocacy and communication strategies to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people across Pakistan. The role requires a strategic thinker with proven experience in policy advocacy, communications strategy development, digital media management, media relations, and stakeholder engagement. This is an opportunity to champion children's rights at the international level while working for the world's leading children's organization.
Key Responsibilities
- • Develop and lead advocacy strategies with clear theories of change and measurable objectives
- • Implement advocacy strategies with tangible policy change outcomes
- • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies
- • Manage digital communications and social media platforms
- • Lead media relations and manage media engagement activities
- • Monitor, evaluate and report on advocacy and communication results
- • Manage advocacy and communication projects and budgets
- • Build and maintain stakeholder networks and coalitions
- • Provide capacity building in advocacy and communications
- • Engage partnerships for resource mobilization
- • Deploy a range of advocacy and communication tactics
- • Create campaign narratives and creative communication materials
Requirements & Qualifications
- ✓ Advanced University degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, International Development, Public Administration, Economics, Communication or related field
- ✓ Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in advocacy/campaigning and communications
- ✓ Experience in leading development and implementation of advocacy strategies with clear theories of change
- ✓ Track record of achieving or contributing to tangible policy change
- ✓ Proven experience in deploying advocacy and communication tactics based on clear theory of change
- ✓ Experience in building and maintaining stakeholder networks and working with coalitions
- ✓ Current expertise in digital and social media content, audience trends, and online platform management
- ✓ Demonstrated media relations experience
- ✓ Strong communicator able to present complex policy ideas in succinct, engaging ways
- ✓ Experience in project design and management including budget management and M&E
- ✓ Knowledge of children's rights, public policy, international development and humanitarian issues
- ✓ Fluency in English (required)
