How to Prepare for This Role
The Charge Nurses position at Mufti Mehmood Memorial Teaching Hospital, MTI Dera Ismail Khan, is a contract appointment. The role requires BS (Hons) Nursing or Three Year General Nursing plus one year specialty diploma or mid-wife qualification, along with valid Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) registration. Selection is through a committee constituted by the Board of Governors, and only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. The four areas below outline what the selection committee will evaluate most closely.
The committee will verify your nursing qualification and your Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) registration. If you hold a BS (Hons) Nursing degree, bring the original degree and transcript. If you hold a Three Year General Nursing qualification plus a one-year specialty diploma or mid-wife certificate, bring both the nursing certificate and the specialty diploma or mid-wife certificate. Critically, bring your valid PNC registration certificate and confirm it is current and not expired before applying. PNC registration is a mandatory requirement, and any lapse will disqualify your application at the document verification stage. Bring two sets of attested photocopies of all certificates in addition to originals.
If your PNC registration is due for renewal, complete the renewal process before submitting your application. The selection committee considers only current, valid PNC registrations. An expired registration certificate, even if recently expired, will disqualify an otherwise strong candidate.
The interview will assess your clinical nursing knowledge relevant to the charge nurse role. Be prepared to discuss patient assessment, vital signs monitoring, medication administration and drug calculation, IV line management, wound care, patient documentation, infection control and hand hygiene, and nursing care planning. Review common ward procedures including catheter care, nasogastric tube management, oxygen therapy, and patient positioning. For the specialty diploma context, be ready to discuss clinical skills specific to your specialty area, such as obstetric nursing, pediatric care, or surgical nursing depending on your diploma background. Demonstrating up-to-date clinical knowledge will strengthen your position during the interview.
The Charge Nurse role in a hospital ward involves both direct patient care and team coordination responsibility. Be prepared to describe your nursing experience from previous hospital roles, emphasizing not just your clinical skills but also any experience coordinating a nursing team during a shift, handling patient handover, or managing an emergency on the ward before senior staff arrived.
The selected candidate will carry out duties under the MTI Act-2015 (as amended) and MTI Regulations-2019. In the interview, be ready to discuss the responsibilities of a charge nurse within a regulated teaching hospital, including supervision of junior nurses, patient handover documentation, communication with the ward in-charge and attending physician, maintaining ward cleanliness and infection control, and reporting to the Nursing Manager. In a teaching hospital setting, charge nurses also participate in the supervision of nursing students during clinical rotations. Demonstrating awareness of both clinical and supervisory responsibilities in a teaching hospital context will reflect positively during the interview.
Review the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) scope of practice for nursing and the standards for charge nurse conduct in hospital settings. Familiarity with PNC guidelines on nursing practice, patient advocacy, and professional nursing ethics will demonstrate awareness of your professional regulatory framework, which is important in a government hospital environment.

Attach a covering letter, detailed Resume, attested photocopies of your nursing degree or certificate, specialty diploma or mid-wife certificate (if applicable), valid PNC registration certificate, experience certificates, CNIC copy, and 2 passport-size photographs.
