The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a dedicated Dari/Pashto Interpreter to support the Safety & Wellness Program. In this part-time volunteer role, you'll provide language interpretation and translation services to help newly arrived refugees and immigrants access mental health and psychosocial support services. Work 5 hours per week in a hybrid setting supporting vulnerable populations.

Our Safety & Wellness Program provides mental health and psychosocial support to clients with identified mental and emotional health needs.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide on-site and remote language interpretation support for Safety & Wellness Program support groups and psychoeducational workshops
- • Assist with written translation of materials, handouts, and outreach documents
- • Deliver accurate interpretation during mental health appointments, support group meetings, workshops, and community events
- • Communicate with supervisors to assess interpretation needs, scheduling and locations prior to each assignment
- • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct, serving as neutral conduit of communication between clients and providers
- • Coordinate with Mental Health Coordinators and program staff to prepare for assignments and participate in debriefing
- • Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to interpreter ethics standards
- • Participate in volunteer orientations, trainings, and team meetings as required
- • Demonstrate cultural competency and trauma-informed care principles in all interactions
Requirements
- ✓ Fluency in English and Dari or Pashto (bilingual requirement)
- ✓ Based in the United States and US citizen or holds valid US work authorization
- ✓ Strong communication skills and ability to remain neutral and professional in sensitive situations
- ✓ Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards in interpretation
- ✓ Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- ✓ Reliability, punctuality, and consistent availability for scheduled assignments
- ✓ Must be able to commit to 5 hours per week

Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
Fluency in English and Dari or Pashto required
