How to Prepare for This Role
The DevOps Engineer role at KnowledgeCity is a remote position for candidates based in Pakistan. The selection process is application-based through Greenhouse, and shortlisted candidates will proceed to interviews. The role requires both deep technical knowledge and practical experience with AI-native engineering tools. The four areas below cover what will matter most in the interview.
AWS is central to this role. Be ready to discuss your hands-on experience with specific AWS services: EC2 instance management, RDS database administration, CloudFront CDN configuration, and Lambda serverless functions. Interviewers are likely to ask about real scenarios where you automated deployments, managed infrastructure at scale, or reduced downtime in AWS environments. Also prepare to explain your experience with Infrastructure as Code tools: Terraform, Ansible, Helm, or CloudFormation. Be specific about which tools you used on which projects and what problems they solved. Kubernetes cluster management is explicitly required, so be ready to walk through your experience managing clusters including scaling, networking, and troubleshooting.
The ad lists EC2, RDS, CloudFront, and Lambda with an "etc." suggesting the interviewer expects broad AWS familiarity. Review core AWS services beyond this list, including VPC, IAM roles and policies, S3, and CloudWatch, as these are standard DevOps territory on AWS.
The role requires designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines across multiple environments using Bitbucket Pipelines. Prepare to describe pipelines you have built from scratch: the stages involved, how you handled environment-specific configurations, rollback strategies, and how you integrated security into the pipeline. For monitoring, you should be able to discuss your experience with ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), Prometheus, and Grafana: how you set up alerts, dashboards, and log aggregation. The role also explicitly includes leading incident response and conducting security and performance testing, so be ready to describe how you have handled incidents including root cause analysis, resolution steps, and post-incident documentation.
The ad specifically mentions integrating security best practices throughout CI/CD pipelines. Prepare one or two concrete examples of how you have implemented security controls in a pipeline: for example, static code analysis, secret scanning, container image vulnerability scanning, or automated compliance checks.
This role explicitly requires working in an AI-native way. The ad lists GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Antigravity, and Claude as tools the team uses. The interviewer will likely assess how you currently use AI tools in your engineering workflow and how well you evaluate and validate AI-generated code or infrastructure configurations. Be prepared to describe a specific situation where you used an AI tool to write, review, or debug infrastructure code or a script, what the output was, and how you validated it before deployment. The ad notes that "sound judgment reviewing and validating AI-generated outputs" is a requirement, so emphasize your critical evaluation process rather than just stating you use these tools.
If you have not yet used Cursor or Antigravity, explore them before your interview. Familiarity with the tools listed in the job description signals genuine engagement with the AI-native workflow KnowledgeCity has built into their engineering culture.
Advanced English proficiency, both written and spoken, is listed as mandatory. This is a remote role at an international company, and your ability to communicate clearly in English will be assessed from the first interaction. The interview itself will likely be conducted in English. Prepare to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely: describe a complex deployment challenge you solved, walk through your CI/CD pipeline design, or explain how you handled an incident, all in clear professional English. Review your CV to ensure it is written in clean, professional English before submitting, and prepare a brief professional introduction about your DevOps background that you can deliver confidently at the start of the interview.
