Forman Christian College (A Chartered University), Lahore is hiring a Director of Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC). This full-time position provides strategic, high-level leadership to promote, support, and manage research, innovation, and commercialization activities within the University. The role is responsible for fostering a culture of innovation, strengthening interdisciplinary research capacity, fostering industry linkages, enhancing grant acquisition, stewarding intellectual property (IP) and ensuring compliance with national and international research standards of academic and commercial excellence.

Position Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Earned PhD degree
• 10 to 15 years of academic/research experiences at Higher Educational Institutions
• Desirable at least 5 years in a senior leadership or administrative role (e.g. research center director, dean, ORIC/industry liaison role)

Skills:

• Expertise in research governance, compliance and ethics frameworks
• Strategic communication and networking skills
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary research initiatives
• Securing and managing competitive national or international research grants
• Knowledge of intellectual property and commercialization processes
• Ability to engage with industry and stakeholders

Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Policy Development

• Develop and implement the University's research and innovation strategy aligned with institutional mission/goals and national priorities.
• Establish policies, procedures, and frameworks for research governance, research ethics, and research commercialization.
• Lead initiatives to enhance the University's research profile and rankings.
• Constitute and serve as the chair of ORIC Steering Committee.

2. Research Strategy & Development

• Facilitate faculty research by identifying and securing funding opportunities (grants, government contracts, & industry sponsors) and supporting proposal development.
• Promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research initiatives.

3. Innovation & Commercialization

• Develop systems for intellectual property (IP) management, including copyrights, and licensing.
• Promote commercialization of research output through industry partnerships, startups, and spin-offs in collaboration with the Business Incubation Center.
• Facilitate technology transfer and innovation incubation activities.

4. Industry & External Linkages

• Build and maintain strong, sustainable relationships with industry, government agencies, and international partners.
• Identify collaborative opportunities for research funding and joint projects.
• Represent the university in national and international research forums.

5. Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies (e.g., HEC and NECHE).
• Oversee research ethics (Institutional Review Board, IRB), integrity, and quality assurance mechanisms.
• Monitor research performance metrics and reporting requirements.
• Perform and report the annual assessment to HEC.
• Maintain and improve FCCU's ORIC ranking (current, X – category).

6. Other Duties

• Organize training workshops on research methodologies, grant writing, and publication strategies.
• Mentor faculty and early-career researchers to enhance research productivity.
• Promote a culture of research excellence and innovation.
• Track and annual report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to research output, funding, and impact.
• Manage ORIC staff, budget, and operational activities.
