How to Prepare for This Role
The Respiratory Therapist (Neonatal & Pediatric ICU) position at Mufti Mehmood Memorial Teaching Hospital, MTI Dera Ismail Khan, is a contract appointment. The role requires BS (Hons) in ICU Care Technology with at least one year of ICU experience. Selection is through a committee constituted by the Board of Governors, and only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. The four areas below outline what the selection committee will evaluate most closely.
The qualification requirement is a BS (Hons) in ICU Care Technology from a recognized institute with at least one year of ICU experience. At the interview, the selection committee will verify your degree and your experience certificate. Bring your original BS (Hons) degree, your degree transcript, and an experience certificate from your employing hospital confirming at least one year of ICU service. The experience certificate should clearly state your designation, the ICU department where you worked, and the duration. If your one year of ICU experience is from more than one hospital, bring experience certificates from each institution and be ready to describe the ICU settings you worked in.
If your ICU experience was in a general adult ICU rather than a neonatal or pediatric ICU specifically, be ready to explain how your skills transfer to the Neonatal and Pediatric ICU environment. Highlight any exposure to pediatric or neonatal cases during your ICU rotation, as the position is specifically for the Neonatal and Pediatric ICU.
The interview will assess your technical knowledge in respiratory therapy and mechanical ventilation. Be prepared to discuss ventilator settings, modes of ventilation including CPAP, BiPAP, and conventional mechanical ventilation, weaning protocols, and arterial blood gas interpretation. Review oxygen therapy delivery systems, nebulization techniques, chest physiotherapy, and suctioning procedures. For the neonatal context specifically, prepare on high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV), neonatal CPAP management, and safe oxygen delivery to premature neonates. Understanding alarm management and troubleshooting common ventilator problems will also be assessed.
The position is specifically for Neonatal and Pediatric ICU. Review the differences between adult and neonatal ventilation parameters, tidal volumes, and respiratory rates. Understanding the unique physiological requirements of neonates and pediatric patients in respiratory distress will demonstrate direct readiness for this specialized ICU environment.
The selected candidate will carry out duties under the MTI Act-2015 (as amended) and MTI Regulations-2019. Be prepared to discuss your understanding of working in a regulated teaching hospital ICU, including documentation of respiratory therapy interventions, communication with the medical team, equipment maintenance responsibilities, and infection control protocols in the ICU environment. Demonstrate your readiness to work as part of a multidisciplinary ICU team under the supervision of the attending physician and within the governance structure of a KPK MTI hospital.
Prepare to describe your typical responsibilities in your previous ICU role: what your shift involved, how you coordinated with physicians and nursing staff, how you documented therapy, and how you handled equipment alarms or emergencies. This practical context helps the panel assess your real-world ICU readiness beyond theoretical knowledge.
Obtain the application form from Administration Block, MMM Teaching Hospital MMM-MTI DIKhan and complete it in full. Attach a covering letter, detailed Resume, attested photocopies of your BS (Hons) degree, transcript, ICU experience certificate(s), CNIC copy, and 2 passport-size photographs. Deposit Rs. 1,000/- (non-refundable) at Bank of Khyber Branch MMM TH MMM-MTI DIKhan, A/C No. 300573222, and attach the original bank receipt. Cheque or pay order will not be accepted.
