How to Prepare for This Role
The Specialist Registrar (SPR) position at Mufti Mehmood Memorial Teaching Hospital, MTI Dera Ismail Khan, is a two-year tenure post under the KPK MTI Act 2015. The post covers eight specializations and the selection is conducted through a committee constituted by the Board of Governors. Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview where clinical knowledge, qualification verification, and professional suitability will be assessed. The four areas below outline what the selection committee will evaluate most closely.
The primary eligibility requirement is FCPS/MD/MS or any other degree equivalent by the PMDC in your relevant specialization. The selection committee will verify your qualification at the interview stage, so bring originals and attested copies of your PMDC-recognized degree, fellowship completion certificate, and PMDC registration. If you are applying for SPR Accident & Emergency, note that candidates holding a General Medicine qualification are specifically eligible for that post. During the interview, clearly state your specialization, your degree title, and confirm PMDC equivalency. Any mismatch between your qualification and the specialization applied for will result in disqualification at shortlisting or interview.
Carry your PMDC registration certificate in original at the interview. If your degree is PMDC-equivalent but not FCPS/MD/MS, bring supporting documentation confirming PMDC equivalency, such as a PMDC equivalence letter or relevant council recognition document. Gaps in documentation are a common reason for disqualification at this stage.
The interview will focus on clinical competency in your declared specialization. For Accident & Emergency, review triage protocols, resuscitation, emergency airway management, and critical care. For General Medicine, prepare on common systemic diseases, diagnostic approaches, and ward management. For General Surgery, review operative procedures, post-operative care, and surgical anatomy. For Diagnostic Radiology, prepare on imaging modalities, radiological interpretation, and radiation safety principles. For Ophthalmology, review anterior and posterior segment conditions and ophthalmic emergencies. For Dermatology, prepare on common skin conditions and dermatological procedures. For Pediatrics, review neonatal and pediatric protocols and common childhood illnesses. For Nephrology, review renal disease management, dialysis principles, and fluid and electrolyte management.
Specialist Registrar interviews at teaching hospitals routinely include clinical case-based questions. Prepare two or three representative case scenarios from your specialization where you can walk the panel through your diagnostic reasoning, management plan, and follow-up approach. Demonstrating structured clinical thinking is as important as factual knowledge.
The selected candidate will carry out duties under the MTI Act-2015 (as amended) and MTI Regulations-2019. In the interview, you may be asked about the role of a Specialist Registrar in a Medical Teaching Institution, the reporting hierarchy, and performance obligations under the Board of Governors. Be prepared to discuss your understanding of working in a regulated teaching hospital environment, including patient care documentation, ward management, supervision of junior staff, and participation in clinical teaching. The tenure period is two years, and your performance will be evaluated against standards set under the MTI framework. Demonstrating awareness of these responsibilities signals professional maturity to the selection committee.
The KPK MTI Act 2015 and MTI Regulations 2019 are publicly available. A basic familiarity with the governance structure, the role of the Board of Governors, and the defined duties of registrars under these regulations will reflect positively on your preparedness and commitment to working within the institutional framework.
Obtain the application form from the Administration Block, MMM Teaching Hospital MMM-MTI DIKhan and complete it in full. Attach a covering letter, detailed Resume, attested photocopies of all educational documents and experience certificates, CNIC copy, and 2 passport-size photographs. Deposit Rs. 1,000/- (non-refundable) at Bank of Khyber Branch MMM TH MMM-MTI DIKhan, A/C No. 300573222, and attach the original bank receipt. Cheque or pay order will not be accepted. Clearly write the post and specialization applied for on the corner of the envelope.
