Institute of Space Technology (IST) Islamabad invites applications from male candidates for 01 post of Sports Coach (Male) at EBPS-14 on a contract basis. This role plans, organizes, and delivers sports training and coaching programs for IST students across multiple sports disciplines. The initial contract period is two (02) years, extendable on performance basis. Important Information / Application Guidelines
- All qualifications should only be from the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education / Technical Education recognized by the Federal / Provincial / AJK Governments and well reputed universities / institutions recognized by the HEC, as applicable.
- First class in final degree is mandatory. Only one second class / division in the entire academic career from matric onwards is allowed. First class / division means a minimum of 60% marks for annual system or a minimum CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 for semester system. Second class / division means a minimum of 50% marks for annual system or a minimum CGPA of 2.0 out of 4.0 for semester system.
- No third division/class (marks less than 50% in annual system or CGPA less than 2.00/4.00 in semester system) in the entire academic career is allowed.
- All posts are Islamabad based. Practical Test/Interviews will be conducted at IST, Islamabad campus only.
- Applications with academic qualifications/degrees and experience in the relevant field will be considered only.
- Age will be calculated on the closing date of applications. Ex-Govt. officials / Ex-servicemen who fulfill the eligibility criteria may be granted age relaxation as per Govt. rules.
- Candidates selected will be offered an initial contract for a period of two (02) years (extendable).
- Ex-servicemen should also submit attested copy of NOC (mandatory) from General HQs / Air HQs / Naval HQs, as applicable.
- Ex-Govt. officials / Ex-servicemen should submit attested copies of their release/retirement order and Last Pay Certificate (LPC) duly verified from the concerned authority.
- Serving Employees of Govt. / Semi Govt. / Autonomous organizations should submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their respective organizations regarding permission to apply.
- Serving Regular Employees of Govt. / Semi Govt. / Autonomous organizations will not be appointed on deputation / EOL. In case of selection, the applicant will be required to tender resignation from regular service.

How to Prepare for This Role
The Sports Coach (Male) at IST Islamabad is an EBPS-14 contract post open to degree holders in Physical Education/Sports Science (1st division, 09 years experience) and Retired Subedars or equivalent ranks of PAF/Navy with relevant experience. The maximum age is 30 years. The selection includes a practical assessment and/or interview at IST Islamabad campus. The four areas below reflect what the panel evaluates for this hands-on coaching and university sports management role.
There are two eligibility routes for this post. The academic route requires a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health and Physical Education, or Sports Science in 1st division from an HEC recognized institution, plus 09 years of post-qualification experience in the relevant field. The military route accepts Retired Subedars or equivalent ranks of PAF/Navy with relevant sports coaching or physical training experience. For the academic route, bring attested experience certificates covering the full 09 years, with dates of service and the nature of sports coaching or physical education work described. For the military route, bring your retirement/release order, Last Pay Certificate, and the mandatory NOC from GHQ/Air HQs/Naval HQs. The NOC from GHQ/Air HQs/Naval HQs is a mandatory requirement for all Ex-servicemen applying for IST posts.
For the academic route, prepare a consolidated experience summary showing sports or physical education-related roles at each organization, the sports disciplines covered (cricket, football, athletics, basketball etc.), the level of athletes coached (school, college, university, inter-district), and any notable team achievements during your tenure. This context makes experience certificates more credible and relevant to a university setting.
The panel will assess your ability to plan and conduct sports training programs for university students at IST. Be ready to discuss how you would develop an annual sports calendar for a technical university, how you would set up training sessions for specific sports, how you would identify talented students for inter-university competitions, and how you would manage the fitness and conditioning of student athletes alongside their academic workload. Demonstrate familiarity with HEC's inter-university sports programs and the Pakistan University Sports Federation (PUSF) competition calendar. IST participates in national inter-university sports events, so experience with competition preparation, team selection, and tournament management is directly relevant.
Specify the sports discipline or disciplines you are most qualified to coach. IST is a technical university and the interview panel may ask which sport you specialize in and how you would develop that sport's program from scratch at a campus with a primarily engineering and science student body. A clear specialization is more compelling than a general physical education background.
Beyond coaching, the Sports Coach at a university is responsible for maintaining sports facilities and equipment, scheduling facility usage, organizing inter-department and inter-university competitions, managing sports equipment inventory, and ensuring safety protocols during sports activities. The panel may ask how you would handle a sports injury during practice, how you would maintain sports equipment and prevent misuse, how you would organize an annual sports day, and how you would balance multiple sports disciplines with limited facilities. Demonstrating knowledge of first aid and basic sports injury management is a significant advantage. Military route candidates should describe the physical training and sports programs they organized or participated in during their service and how those translate to a university coaching context.
Prepare a brief outline of how you would organize an annual IST Sports Week covering at least three team sports (e.g., cricket, football, basketball) and two individual sports (e.g., badminton, table tennis). Include scheduling, team registration, referees, prize distribution, and safety. Organizing this mentally before the interview shows operational readiness for a university sports coordinator role.
