As the Director of Academic Excellence, you will not be focusing on academic theory. Instead, you will take full operational ownership of our practical academic strategy, establish clear standards, surface execution gaps, and coach high-performing teams across varied school models to deliver tangible, data-driven student outcomes. You will also serve as the global public voice of this learning science movement.
Role Overview
- Salary: $400,000 USD/year ($200 USD/hour)
- Note: Pay is set based on global value, not the local market. Calculated as hourly rate Γ 40 hours Γ 50 weeks.
- Location: Worldwide (Fully-Remote)
- Job Type: Full-time (40 hours/week), Long-term role
- Schedule: Flexible
- Company: 2 Hour Learning (via Crossover)
Key Responsibilities
- Framework Design: Convert learning science into actionable guidance for curriculum design, motivational systems, and application development.
- Execution Reviews: Conduct academic execution reviews with Heads of Academics to ensure school teams remain aligned, accountable, and results-driven.
- Ecosystem Evaluation: Integrate data, interviews, and direct observations to identify high-impact obstacles to accelerated learning and recommend concrete interventions.
- Strategic Alignment: Manage planning processes, feedback mechanisms, and milestone monitoring to sustain a strict focus on student learning objectives.
- Global Advocacy: Serve as the external face of 2 Hour Learning, delivering keynote presentations and engaging with Ministries of Education to advance systemic change.
What You Will NOT Do
- Work on isolated curriculum initiatives that fail to create systemic impact.
- Produce theoretical research disconnected from practical execution or student outcomes.
- Pass performance accountability down to middle managers or external consultants.
- Rely on brand reputation or pure theory to convince skeptical stakeholders.
Candidate Requirements

Quick Tips Before You Click Apply
- Set Aside Quiet Time: Because Crossover heavily weights early cognitive and skill tests over traditional resume reviews, treat the initial steps with high focus. Do not rush them.
- Highlight Your Scale: Ensure you are ready to speak to your experience managing 50+ people and holding direct hire/fire accountability, as this is a strict gatekeeping requirement for the role.
π‘ Expert Advice for Applicants
- Prepare for an Unconventional Hiring Pipeline: Crossover's application process is notoriously rigorous and highly automated in the early stages. Do not expect a traditional resume review right away. Instead, focus entirely on preparing for the cognitive aptitude test and real-world skill assessments. Treat the early stages like a competitive exam where speed, logical reasoning, and practical problem-solving are paramount.
- Lead with Metrics, Not Philosophy: This role explicitly rejects "academic theory" in favor of operational rigor. When drafting your application responses or interviewing, avoid overly dense educational jargon. Instead, emphasize quantifiable metrics: By how much did you accelerate student learning? How did you manage a 50+ person team's performance? What operational frameworks did you implement to scale?
- Showcase True Tech Fluency: Many applicants mistake "using educational software" for EdTech leadership. Because 2 Hour Learning leverages AI-driven tutoring and adaptive systems, you need to demonstrate a deep understanding of how these systems function. Be ready to discuss how data loops, AI agents, or personalization algorithms can actively eliminate classroom inefficiencies.
- Verify Your People-Management Track Record: The requirement for managing a team of 50+ people and holding full hire/fire accountability is strict. If your leadership experience is primarily cross-functional or matrixed without direct-line authority, you will likely be filtered out. Ensure your leadership scale is front and center on your profile.
