How to Prepare for This Role

The Deputy Director (Registrar Office) / Deputy Registrar position at IST Islamabad is an EBPS-18 contract role requiring a 4-year Bachelor's degree (or 16 years of education) in a technical discipline with 6 years of post-qualification experience. The technical degree requirement for an administrative role is intentional at IST, a science and technology university where the Registrar's Office manages academic records, degree verification, and regulatory compliance for engineering and science programs. The four areas below outline what the selection panel will assess most closely.

๐Ÿ“Œ
Note: First class in final degree is mandatory. Only one second class in the entire academic career from matric onwards is allowed. No third division at any level. The required disciplines are: Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Physics, Applied Physics. Candidates can apply for one post only. Last date: 9th July 2026. No TA/DA for test/interview.
1Technical Bachelor's Degree (1st Division) and 6 Years Post-Qualification Experience

Your 4-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent 16-year education qualification must be in one of the eight accepted disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Physics, or Applied Physics. The degree must be in 1st division from an HEC recognized university. Ensure your academic record from matric to your final degree meets the first class requirement (minimum 60% in annual system or CGPA 2.5/4.0 in semester system). Only one second class / division is allowed in the entire academic career from matric onwards; no third division at any level. Bring originals and attested photocopies of all mark sheets from matric onwards. For experience, 6 years of post-qualification work must be clearly documented in experience certificates on employer letterhead, stating your designation, responsibilities, and the period of employment.

Tip
If your degree title uses different wording (e.g., BS Electrical, B.Sc. Engineering, B.E. Computer), confirm it falls within the accepted disciplines and bring your degree along with the degree equivalency determination from HEC if it is a non-standard title. The scrutiny committee will flag ambiguous degree titles.
2Academic Administration: Student Records, Degree Verification and Regulatory Compliance

The Registrar's Office at a technical university manages the full academic records lifecycle: student enrollment and registration, semester scheduling and time-tabling, examination management, result processing and transcript issuance, degree award ceremonies, degree attestation, and alumni records. Be prepared to describe your experience managing or supporting these functions. The panel will also assess your knowledge of HEC regulations governing degree programs, credit hour frameworks, affiliation requirements, and degree issuance standards for engineering and science programs. If you have handled degree equivalency queries, HEC attestation processes, PEC registration support for engineering graduates, or PMDC/PBC liaison for relevant disciplines, describe these activities in your interview.

Key Point
IST offers engineering and science programs accredited by relevant bodies. A candidate who understands Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) accreditation requirements for electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering programs will demonstrate direct relevance to IST's Registrar Office context. Mention any experience with academic accreditation support.
3Technical Knowledge in the Registrar's Context

The requirement for a technical degree in a Registrar Office role reflects IST's need for an administrator who understands the academic structure and credit requirements of engineering and science programs. Be ready to explain how your technical background enables you to interpret degree plans, understand course outcomes and credit loads, communicate effectively with faculty and department heads on academic matters, and manage technical documentation accurately. Discuss your familiarity with academic management systems (ERP/SMS), digital record management, and examination management processes, including any experience with online result processing or student information system administration. Candidates with both technical qualifications and administrative experience in a higher education setting are the strongest fit for this role.

Tip
Prepare a concrete example of an administrative challenge in an academic or technical environment that you resolved using your technical background. This is the core narrative the panel wants to hear from a technical graduate applying for a Registrar Office role.
4Application Package and Submission to IST HR Department
