How to Prepare for This Role
The Consultant (Minor Crops) role at the Ministry of National Food Security and Research is a senior advisory position focused on improving production, availability, and trade of Pakistan's minor and high-value crops. The selection panel will evaluate your agricultural consultancy background, situational analysis skills, and hands-on knowledge of crop production improvement across provinces. The guide below covers the key interview preparation areas.
The panel will assess your knowledge of agronomic systems and modern farming techniques for minor crops (potatoes, tomatoes, onions, maize, rice, chilies, garlic) and high-value crops (mangoes, citrus fruits, dates). Be prepared to discuss crop-specific production challenges in Pakistan, seasonal availability issues, post-harvest losses, and the role of Good Agricultural Practices in improving yields and quality.
Prepare crop-specific data for at least three to four of the listed crops: current production volumes, key producing provinces, typical seasonal availability gaps, and major export markets. Demonstrating current, crop-specific knowledge signals genuine expertise to the interview panel.
Your experience in conducting situational analyses and formulating action plans for minor crops will be a central focus of the interview. Be ready to walk the panel through your methodology for situational analysis: how you collect data, engage with provincial stakeholders, identify supply gaps, and translate findings into actionable policy recommendations for pre-cropping season and post-harvest interventions.
The role requires collaboration with all four provinces and federal stakeholders to finalize crop policies before each cropping season. Highlight any experience you have working in a multi-provincial or federal-provincial coordination environment in the agriculture sector.
The panel will evaluate your understanding of production and price trend monitoring for minor and high-value crops, and your experience facilitating market access for agro-exports. Be prepared to discuss: how you have monitored and analyzed agricultural price trends, how you have worked to resolve supply chain challenges for growers and processors, and your experience addressing SPS and food safety concerns for agricultural exports.
Review Pakistan's current export situation for high-value crops including mangoes and citrus. Be ready to discuss specific market access barriers and how regulatory, SPS, or supply chain interventions can address them. Panels at MNFSR particularly value candidates who understand the full chain from farm to export market.
Prepare examples demonstrating your track record in project management: planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of agricultural consultancy projects. The role requires extensive field travel and multi-stakeholder engagement. Be ready to discuss how you have worked with diverse stakeholders including farmers, processors, government departments, and donor agencies. Submit your application by email and hard copy by 06 July 2026. Bring all original documents to the interview. Government servants must have their NOC ready.
