How to Prepare for This Role
The Research Associate position at MMRI Sahiwal is under a PARB-funded government research project. Selection involves a written test and/or interview conducted by the project panel. The guide below covers how to prepare for both the application and the test/interview specifically for this Plant Breeding and Genetics role.
The written test and interview panel will assess your M.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture knowledge in Plant Breeding and Genetics. Review key topics including: principles of plant breeding, hybrid development methods, quantitative genetics, selection methods, breeding for yield and quality traits, forage and fodder crop improvement, and sorghum and pearl millet genetics and agronomy.
The project specifically focuses on sorghum hybrids and pearl millet varieties for dual purpose use (grain and fodder). Study the specific breeding techniques used for these crops including male sterility systems, hybrid seed production, and nutritional quality parameters in sorghum and millet.
As a Research Associate under a PARB project, you will be expected to assist in field trials, data collection, and experimental analysis. Be ready to discuss: experimental design (RCBD, CRD), data recording procedures, statistical analysis of plant breeding data, and report writing. Panels at PARB-funded institutes expect candidates to demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and practical field research skills.
Preference will be given to candidates who have prior experience working in a government research organization. If you have completed research work at a PARB, AARI, or any Punjab agricultural research institute, highlight this clearly in your CV and during the interview.
Ensure there is no 3rd Division in your academic career (Matric, Intermediate, B.Sc., M.Sc.). Prepare attested copies of all educational certificates and degrees, CNIC, Punjab domicile, and experience certificates. Bring originals and one photocopy of each document to the test/interview. Also bring one passport size photograph.
Prepare your plain paper application carefully. It should include: your full name, father's name, date of birth, CNIC number, domicile, contact number, email address, current postal address, educational qualifications (with division/CGPA), and any relevant research experience. Address it to The Project Manager PARB No. 22-214.
Review the objectives of PARB Project No. 22-214: developing early maturing, high yielding dual purpose sorghum hybrids and pearl millet varieties with improved nutritional quality and fodder traits. Be prepared to discuss how your M.Sc. research and academic background can contribute to this project. The panel may ask about your understanding of sorghum and pearl millet improvement strategies and your experience with any related research work.
