How to Prepare for This Role
- This role is centered on IBM middleware and enterprise integration, not general software engineering. PSW's integration layer connects customs authorities, shipping lines, traders, and regulatory agencies at a national scale. Prepare by focusing on the specific technologies listed, not broad programming skills.
- IBM App Connect and IBM MQ 9.x are the core technical requirements and will almost certainly be tested. Be ready to walk through how you have built integration flows, configured message queues, handled LSQL message transformation, and managed error handling and dead-letter queues in a production environment.
- Review enterprise integration patterns including EAI, SOA, Microservices, and Service Orchestration. Interviewers expect architecture-level discussion, not just implementation steps. Be able to explain when to use a message queue versus a direct API call, and how you have handled container-based service orchestration.
- Brush up on your Java or .Net integration code, Git and GitFlow branching workflows, Eclipse IDE usage, and Linux command-line operations. These are all explicitly listed in the requirements and signal day-to-day tooling in this role.
- The role requires creating SOPs and troubleshooting guides for handover to operations teams. Highlight any technical documentation, runbooks, or operational guides you have authored in previous positions. This demonstrates the production-readiness and junior mentorship mindset PSW expects at the senior engineer level.
- Prepare examples where you led technical problem-solving under deadline pressure in an agile environment, as the requirements call out fast-paced, deadline-oriented agile experience alongside leadership and debugging skills.
