Expert Tips
- Paediatric Urology at SIUT is among the most competitive and specialized entry-level medical positions in Pakistan — your application must demonstrate genuine interest in the specialty. SIUT is not a general hospital. Its Paediatric Urology Department performs thousands of procedures annually for congenital anomalies, functional disorders, and acquired conditions in children. Even at the MBBS level, research and mention in your application key paediatric urology concepts such as vesicoureteric reflux, posterior urethral valves, and bladder dysfunction. Expressing a specific interest in pursuing FCPS in Surgery with a focus on urology or paediatric surgery strengthens your candidacy significantly.
- Your house job exposure to Surgery, Paediatrics, or Emergency Medicine should be highlighted with specific case examples and procedures. In your CV, detail your house job rotations, including the hospital, unit, case volume, and importantly, the paediatric surgical or urological cases you encountered or assisted with. If you have any exposure to operating theatres, catheterization procedures, or emergency paediatric management, describe this explicitly. Candidates who can articulate hands-on clinical experience in surgical or paediatric environments are prioritized during shortlisting.
- Theatre etiquette and perioperative awareness matter as much as clinical knowledge for this role. Paediatric Urology is a highly surgical specialty. SIUT will evaluate your understanding of operating theatre protocols, sterile technique, peri-operative care, and the role of an RMO in supporting surgical teams. In your interview, discuss your theatre experience (or lack thereof) honestly, but express enthusiasm to learn. Demonstrate that you understand infection control, patient positioning, equipment handling, and the communication required between theatre nurses, anaesthetists, and surgeons.
- Child communication and parental engagement in a surgical context require sensitivity and clarity that sets strong candidates apart. Paediatric urology often involves discussing intimate or sensitive conditions with families — urinary incontinence, genital anomalies, or complex bladder dysfunction. Your application should reflect maturity in approaching these conversations. In your interview, demonstrate your ability to explain complex surgical diagnoses and post-operative care to parents in non-technical language, address parental anxieties, and maintain professional compassion even in emotionally charged situations.
