Expert Tips

  • Familiarize yourself with ICD-10 coding basics before applying, as this will set you apart from other fresh graduates. While the role is for a trainee and no prior experience is required, candidates who have self-studied ICD-10-CM classification, understand the structure of diagnosis codes, or have completed any online medical coding course (AAPC, AHIMA, or similar) will have a clear edge at the interview stage. SIUT handles complex multi-specialty cases including transplantation, urology, and nephrology, so exposure to these disease categories is especially valuable.
  • Your BS Physiology background is your strongest asset โ€” connect it directly to medical coding in your application. Medical coders rely on anatomy and physiology knowledge to interpret clinical documentation and assign accurate codes. In your CV and interview, explain how your understanding of organ systems, disease processes, and medical terminology from your BS Physiology degree makes you well-suited to interpret physician notes and diagnostic reports for coding purposes. Generic applications that do not draw this connection are less likely to shortlist.
  • Patient confidentiality and data accuracy are non-negotiable in medical records roles. SIUT's Medical Records Department handles sensitive patient data governed by institutional and legal data protection standards. Demonstrate in your application and interview that you understand the importance of maintaining strict confidentiality, working accurately under pressure, and following documented protocols. Any prior exposure to patient data in clinical or academic settings should be mentioned.
  • Apply early and ensure your application is fully complete before the June 29, 2026 deadline. SIUT's careers portal may require uploading your degree transcript, CNIC, and CV. Prepare all documents in advance and double-check that your BS Physiology degree institution is HEC-recognized. Late or incomplete applications are not considered regardless of qualification.
